About MoonCadence

Search for a moon phase and most results either hide the actual number behind an ad wall or wrap it in folklore with no source attached. MoonCadence was built to do both halves properly and separately: real ephemeris-grade computation for anything numeric, and honestly-attributed tradition wherever this site also covers the cultural or spiritual side.

Why We Split Fact From Tradition

Every claim here is labeled as either a computed astronomical fact or a documented tradition. We never blur the two, and where sources genuinely disagree (like the two competing definitions of a Blue Moon), we say so instead of picking one silently. A page about a Harvest Moon ritual will tell you plainly that it's folklore, not a scientific consequence of the moon's phase.

What Started This Site

The trigger was a specific frustration: searching for a full moon's traditional name and landing on pages that recycled the same six sentences with the month swapped, sourced from nowhere. Building a site that instead computes real illumination and phase data, and separately researches each culture's naming tradition properly, felt like the more useful thing to put on the internet.

Who's Behind It

MoonCadence is built and maintained by Praveen, working out of Berlin, Germany. It's a one-person project, which is part of why accuracy fixes reported through the contact page get looked at directly rather than routed through a support queue.

How the Numbers Are Kept Honest

Full technical detail on the astronomy library, the Blue Moon rule we use, and the Harvest Moon calculation lives on the methodology page — worth reading if you want to know exactly why a date on this site might differ by a day from another almanac using a different time zone convention.
